Rice, rice, baby!

Hey! Did you know that September is National Rice Month? (OK, I didn't know either, but Gourmet.com filled me in, and now we know.) Do you know what this means? This means that I can have all the rice I want, and I don't have to feel bad about it!

I'm not one to feel bad about overindulging on rice, anyway. Just ask Jeff about how I'll stand over the pot of rice after dinner and eat more. Straight out of the pot.

Anyway. Since I found out this juicy tidbit of information, I think what I'm going to do is eat a lot of rice this month. Then I will tell you about it. Hah!

Please note that I am acutely aware of the banality of rice. But you know what? I love it. Love love love it.

What's your favorite way to eat rice? Tell me! So I can join in.

My favorite is Nashiki sushi rice with stir fry. YUM.

Because I am disgusting and a hobo, I like to fry eggs and put them on top of the rice so the yolk runs down-- sometimes I put a piece of chicken bouillon cube in the rice water before, and think of it as Chicken Two Ways. Or sometimes I like to put tomato sauce on white rice a la that random restaurant in Algeciras.
In conclusion, I am very excited that it is Rice Month.

I love rice with chicken that has been baked with tomatoes, onions, and an unholy amount of black pepper. Seriously, that broth on white rice could break up marriages.

"Chicken Two Ways" - that's hilarious!

I'm a bit of a hobo, too. In high school, I used to order a bowl of white rice with cheddar cheese on top. The grated cheese got all melty. At first, the lunchladies were a little perplexed, but they caught on. I still love it now and actually ate some for lunch today, with a little upgrade to brown rice!

Sadly, I ruined my favorite rice dish by eating it twice a day for too many weeks in medical school--though implying that it qualified for the moniker "dish," is a bit of a stretch. It weren't much, but it sure made me happy: White rice--cupper two. Can o black beans, some of the juice. Can o diced tomatoes--whatever's on sale. Take the time to wrap it in a burrito if its dinner; slap on a sprig o parsley if you want him to stay over.
Gotta go celebrate Rice Month!
